Common CGPA-to-Percentage Formulas
The two most commonly used formulas for converting CGPA (on a 10-point scale) to an equivalent percentage are:
- CBSE-style: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
- VTU/AICTE-style: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Why the Formula Matters
These two formulas can give noticeably different results for the same CGPA — for example, a CGPA of 8.5 converts to 80.75% under the CBSE-style formula but 77.5% under the VTU-style formula. Always confirm which formula your institution officially recognizes before using the converted percentage for any formal application or eligibility check.
Common Use Cases
- Meeting a percentage-based eligibility cutoff for a job application or higher education program
- Comparing your academic performance against percentage-based scholarship criteria
