Sheets Needed = (Total Area × (1 + Waste %)) ÷ Sheet Coverage
Standard Drywall Sheet Sizes
- 4' × 8' (32 sq ft): The most common size, easy for one or two people to handle
- 4' × 12' (48 sq ft): Reduces the number of seams on taller walls, but heavier and harder to maneuver
Why Fewer Seams Can Be Worth It
Using longer sheets reduces the number of seams that need taping and mudding, which can improve the finished look and reduce labor time, even though the sheets themselves are more unwieldy to install.
