The GPA Formula

GPA = Σ(Credit Hours × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)

Why Credit-Weighting Matters

A 4-credit course with a B grade affects your GPA more than a 1-credit course with the same grade, since GPA is weighted by how much coursework each class represents — this calculator applies that weighting automatically.

A Note on Scale Variations

Some schools use slight variations of the 4.0 scale (for example, some don't use +/- grades, or weight honors/AP courses differently). Check your specific institution's official grading scale if it deviates from the standard table above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work for weighted GPA (with AP/Honors bonus points)?

You can adapt it — if your school adds bonus points for AP/Honors courses (e.g., an A in AP = 5.0 instead of 4.0), simply enter the weighted grade point value for those courses instead of the standard scale value.

What if my school doesn't use +/- grades?

Simply use the whole-letter-grade values (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0) for your calculation instead of the +/- variants.
