Total Pool Volume

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter your pool's length and width.
  2. Enter the average depth — (shallow end + deep end) ÷ 2 for a sloped pool.
  3. Click Calculate for total gallons.

The Pool Volume Formula

Volume (gallons) = Length × Width × Average Depth × 7.48

This uses 7.48, the number of gallons in one cubic foot, to convert your pool's volume in cubic feet to gallons.

Calculating Average Depth for a Sloped Pool

For pools with a shallow and deep end, average depth is simply the shallow depth plus the deep depth, divided by 2 — this works well for pools with a fairly consistent, gradual slope.

Why Pool Volume Matters

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work for irregularly shaped pools?

This calculator is designed for rectangular pools. For freeform or irregularly shaped pools, you'd need to break the shape into approximate rectangular/circular sections and sum their volumes separately.

How do I calculate average depth for a pool with a deep end?

Add your shallow end depth and deep end depth together, then divide by 2 — this works well for pools with a consistent, gradual slope between the two depths.
