Salary Hike Calculations

Finding New Salary From Hike Percentage

New Salary = Current Salary × (1 + Hike % ÷ 100)

For example, a ₹6,00,000 salary with a 15% hike becomes ₹6,90,000.

Finding Hike Percentage From Two Salaries

Hike % = ((New Salary − Old Salary) ÷ Old Salary) × 100

Why This Matters for Negotiation

Understanding both directions of this calculation helps in salary negotiations — you can quickly verify whether an offered hike percentage translates to the salary figure you expect, or reverse-calculate what hike percentage a specific target salary represents from your current pay.

A Note on CTC vs. Take-Home

This calculator works with whatever salary figure you enter — but be mindful that a hike expressed as a percentage of CTC (Cost to Company) can result in a smaller percentage increase to your actual take-home pay, since CTC includes components like employer PF contributions and benefits that don't always scale proportionally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with CTC or take-home salary?

It works with whichever figure you enter — just be consistent. Note that a hike percentage on CTC often doesn't translate to an identical percentage increase in your take-home pay, due to how benefits and deductions scale.

What is considered a good salary hike percentage in India?

This varies widely by industry, role, and market conditions, but is often distinct between annual increments (commonly single digits to low teens) and hikes received when switching companies (often significantly higher).
