How to Use This Tool

  1. Check your TNEB/TANGEDCO meter or previous bill for your units consumed in the current bimonthly billing cycle.
  2. Enter that value into the calculator.
  3. Click Estimate Bill to see your approximate electricity charges based on the telescopic slab structure.

How TANGEDCO's Telescopic Tariff Works

Tamil Nadu's electricity board (TANGEDCO, commonly referred to by its older name TNEB) bills domestic consumers on a bimonthly (once every two months) cycle using a telescopic slab tariff — meaning each successive block of units is charged at a progressively higher rate, and importantly, the first 100 units are typically provided free for domestic consumers under Tamil Nadu's long-standing subsidy scheme.

How the Slabs Apply

Under a telescopic structure, if your total consumption falls into a higher slab, you don't pay that higher rate on your entire consumption — only the units within each specific band are charged at that band's rate, with earlier (cheaper) bands still charged at their lower rates. This calculator applies exactly that band-by-band logic.

Why This Is an Estimate

TANGEDCO periodically revises its tariff order, and actual bills also include additional components like fixed/service charges, electricity duty, and any applicable subsidy adjustments that aren't captured in this simplified energy-charge-only estimate. Always refer to your actual TANGEDCO bill or the latest published tariff order for exact figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the first 100 units free?

Tamil Nadu has a long-standing subsidy scheme providing the first 100 units of electricity free to domestic consumers per billing cycle, which this calculator reflects in its slab structure.

Is TNEB billing monthly or bimonthly?

TANGEDCO (TNEB) typically bills domestic consumers on a bimonthly (once every two months) cycle, so the units you enter should reflect your two-month consumption, not a single month.

Does this include fixed charges and electricity duty?

No, this estimate covers only the slab-based energy charges. Your actual bill may include additional fixed charges, electricity duty, and other statutory components not reflected here.
