MS Plate Weight Formula
Weight (kg) = Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × 7.85
This formula uses the density of mild steel (7.85 g/cm³ = 7.85 kg per square metre per mm of thickness) applied directly to the plate's area and thickness.
Why This Matters
Steel plates are priced and transported by weight, so accurate weight calculation is essential for costing, load planning, and structural design across fabrication, shipbuilding, and construction industries.
Accuracy Note
This gives the theoretical weight based on nominal dimensions. Actual plate weight can vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerances on thickness — always check the mill certificate for contractual weight.
